The Beginning of the End of Bottled Water

Before the wild west, there was bottled water.

The $170 billion industry began with the desire for imitation mineral spring water. And to quench the fear of waterborne typhoid and cholera.

In the past two centuries, the reasons for choosing bottled water have changed – but consumption choices haven’t. Bottled water sales continue to flow.

Which is a startling reality since new water treatment methods make a strong case for straight-from-the-tap.

It’s better on cost…

A generic brand of bottled water, bought in bulk, is about $0.16 per litre. Water from your tap is a fraction of that.

If you were to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool with bottled water it would cost about $400,000; to fill it with water from the tap would cost about $2,500.

The difference between the cost of a house and the cost of a fridge.

It’s better for you…

For most Canadians, the quality of their tap water is equal to – but more likely greater than –  the quality of bottled water. Expensive bottled water is just repackaged tap water with the valuable minerals filtered out.

Since 2000, 29 out of 49 bottled water products have been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to contamination – things like mold, bacteria and arsenic.

It’s better for the planet…

The environmental impact of un-recycled water bottles is distressing. There is no overstating this permanent stain on the planet. Up to 65 million plastic water bottles end up in landfills every year and each bottle takes hundreds to thousands of years to decompose, if they decompose at all. Buried under too many other bottles, most won’t get the heat, light or oxygen needed for the process. But, if burned, the bottles produce toxic fumes.

Plus, for every one litre of bottled water consumed, three litres of water were used for its production. To sell water, we waste water; water’s an abundant, but not infinite, resource.

If this makes you concerned about protecting our environment, you’re in good company. Eighty-four per cent of Canadians are.

The Modern-Day Solution…

In 1905, chlorine was the solution to the typhoid water epidemic and remains the most used method of treating tap water. But, there’s evidence chlorine has its own problems – breaking down into potentially harmful disinfection by-products that represent a long-term health risk.

Today, new treatment methods using hydrogen peroxide, a naturally occurring molecule found in the human body, have untapped the potential of the tap: a ready and inexpensive source of healthy water, as nature intended.

AVIVE™ Healthy Water Systems use a stabilized form of hydrogen peroxide to treat water in the home. It leaves tap water cleaner and healthier, reducing and removing dangerous disinfection by-products. Plus, it tastes better!

By installing AVIVE™ ON TAP you make your home part of the solution – and help to end the era of bottled water.

“Healthy water. Reduced landfill. Cleaner air. Reduced energy…There really is an extraordinary ripple effect!” Jim Shubat, Founder of SanEcoTec Ltd. and owner of AVIVE™.
